Curl type 2: Wavy hair

Wavy hair belongs to curl type 2. It is characterized by gentle waves and a natural texture that gives the hair movement and volume. Within curl type 2, a distinction is made between 2a-2c waves:

2a: loose, wavy structure
2b: More defined waves with an S-pattern
2c: clear, tight waves from root to tip

The two most common problems with wavy hair:

1. They are not really understood as a "curly type", which means that the wrong care and styling products are used
2. The hair falls out quickly (usually because of problem 1)

Wellen FAQ

Should you apply styling products to wet or towel-dried hair?

Always apply your styling products to wet hair. Otherwise, your hair can quickly become frizzy and the product will not be absorbed optimally by the hair. Excess water can be removed at any time using the micro-plopping method.

How much product should you use per styling product?

If you don't know how much to use, the spoon technique is a good idea: Take a teaspoon of the product and then see how your hair feels. If you were able to distribute it everywhere and your hair already had a nice slip, then that may have been enough. Start with a leave-in with a little less product and build up as needed. If you haven't used enough curl gel, you'll quickly notice a frizzy result. Next time, take another teaspoon and you can build up the amount and dose it well.

What should I look out for when using curl gels?

1. Always apply all styling products to wet hair.
2. Holding ingredients leave a clear film on dry hair to give the waves hold and definition. In the world of curls, we also call this "gelcast" . The hard layer around the individual strands of hair makes the hair feel as if it was frozen. We simply have to knead this gelcast out of the hair as soon as the hair is 100% dry and conjure up the defined, soft, bouncy waves.

Are there any tools that can help me with styling?

Yes, there are some tools that are very helpful when caring for your waves to achieve the best results. We recommend a curling brush, a curling towel and a spray bottle to start with. Here you can find the perfect set to get you started.
